Cancer Survivor Physical Therapy Program

Cancer Survivor Physical Therapy Program

To improve the transition from cancer patient to cancer survivor, THERAPY1ONE Rehabilitation Center is now expanding their services in the Panama City community. We are the only facility to offer structured physical therapy programs by trained cancer exercise professionals.

Our Program:

Our goal is to develop individualized plans to ultimately help survivors regain their independence and minimize disability following the completion of their cancer treatment.

Research shows that exercise significantly decreases the side effects of medical treatment and improves survival rates after cancer diagnosis. Our physical therapists are professionally trained to offer evidence based programs to cancer patients set forth by the American College of Sports Medicine and American Cancer Society guidelines.

During their rehabilitation program, patients will be assessed at their initial consultation and prescribed a plan of care that will include safe and effective exercises within their level of training intensity while under the supervision of a physical therapist. Intensity levels will be based on the patient's present physical status, current phase of treatment, and results from clinical exercise testing.

Although cancer treatments have advanced and become more effective in recent years, survivors are sometimes still left with the long-term and secondary adverse effects of chemotherapy or radiation. Common physical impairments can include:

  • Weakness
  • Cancer-related Fatigue
  • Imbalance
  • Flexibility Deficits
  • Fibrous Adhesions/scarring
  • Pain
  • Swelling
  • Muscle Atrophy
  • Weight Gain
  • Peripheral Neuropathy
  • Increased Joint Range of Motion
  • Difficulty Ambulating

Physical therapists can play a vital role in determining and treating any physical impairments or functional limitations encountered by many survivors who want to return to their previous activities or are motivated to initiate new health changes for a better quality of life.
